With a contract of $150 million at stake for the official provider of Maryland’s slot machine, Annapolis, the state capital, has been buzzing with lobbyists looking to win favor for their particular company. This deal has drawn in some of the biggest and the best in the slot machine industry, each of whom are hoping to be the winners of the state contract for this East Coast US state. The lottery commission of Maryland has compiled a list of those companies that are eligible to provide the machines to casinos that wish to have slot offerings. For the casinos, having the right kind of offerings that attract large numbers of regular gamers is absolutely crucial, so they have have played their own role in shaping the legislation. The state of Maryland stands to benefit immensely from the deal through taxation and in addition to this, the local areas in which the casinos have been established have already begun to flourish with a great deal of new jobs that are a light in what many see as very dark economic times.

The state’s earnings alone are expected to be in the tens of millions, but that number is expected to rise once the US economy gets back on a path towards growth. The Ocean Downs Racetrack in Ocean City will be offering the machines, but a brand new facility in Cecil County will be opening and offering close to two thousand different slot machines for visitors to enjoy. In all, there are an expected 15,000 slot machines that will be installed in Maryland. Many experts feel that if this contract were awarded to just one manufacturer.

Russia Establishes Zone for Casinos

February 23rd, 2010 | Comments Off | Posted in News

Casino development inside the nation of Russia operates differently than from some other countries around the world, but the Russian government has been trying a new approach. Specific zones have been established in more remote parts of the nation to spread out tourism across a wider geographic area and encourage domestic and foreign vacationers to see more of the nation while simultaneously raising economic standards of the areas where gaming is allowed. The latest casino to open, The Oracle Casino, recently opened to a small crowd of new gaming enthusiasts at its location in the south of Russia, around 60 miles from the city of Rostov. The establishment, while small, is expected to be the first for the Oracle group that hopes to build a hotel in the future and expand economic development in the area to promote tourism and bring higher living standards to the local community.

Since gaming is no longer permitted inside the capital city of Moscow due to legislation currently in place, the new zones will be the ones that make changes in the Russian casino industry. The Oracle Casino opened with 10 traditional table games and 200 slot machines, a hefty start given the economic conditions of the region at this time. Plenty of people were lined up waiting for a chance to play, but the company believes it will see a great deal of growth in the coming months. The exclusive hotel that is planned should act as a draw for visitors and bring in far more revenue than any other industry in this area.
